F2 standing battles have kept me hooked for years, and every season still finds a way to surprise me. The sport blends raw driver talent, sharp strategy calls, and split-second racing that decides who moves closer to Formula 1.

Here is my honest walk through the season, race weekend by race weekend. I am telling it the way I would explain it to a friend over coffee.

F2 Standing Basics: Key Highlights of the Junior Formula System

Formula 2 works as the true Road to F1, sitting just below Formula 1 as the sport’s top feeder series. I always tell new fans to picture it as the junior formula system that shapes tomorrow’s F1 stars.

Every car runs the same Dallara chassis and Mecachrome engines, so driver skill decides who wins, not the machine underneath them. The Scoring and Format rules split the weekend into two very different races.

On Saturday, the Sprint Race uses a reversed grid, which means starting positions flip based on qualifying results from Friday. The top 8 finishers collect 10 points down to 1 point for 8th.

On Sunday, the Feature Race demands a mandatory pit stop, and the standard F1-style points system rewards the top 10. Points run from 25 for the winner down to 1 point for 10th.

Drivers can also grab Bonus Points: 2 points for Pole Position and one extra point for the Fastest Lap. That small detail has decided championships before.

Watching how teams time that single pit stop changes everything I now notice when I follow a race weekend.

F2 Standing Key Race Highlights

The race start at 00:00 showed exactly why F2 racing grips me every season. Kush Maini left the front row as the pole-sitter, but Noel León grabbed 2nd position with a sharper launch off the line.

Deeper in the pack, three-wide action at Turn 1 forced hard choices. Laurens van Hoepen used his softer compound tires to pass Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak at Turn 2 for 4th place.

Mid-pack contact between Jak Crawford, Stenshorne, and Bennett bent a few front wings. By 02:48, the soft tires wore thin, and drivers on the alternate strategy began pitting.

Rafael Villagómez stopped near Turn 12, and a Virtual Safety Car came out. Campos Racing reacted fast, sending Noel León through the pit lane at exactly the right moment.

That tactical pit timing handed him the net race lead by 03:24. From 03:32 onward, the championship fights heated up fast.

Inthraphuvasak sliced through traffic to pass Gabriele Minì and Joshua Dürksen by 04:18. Championship leader Nikola Tsolov pulled a bold move on Dürksen through Turn 5 at 05:11 to protect his championship points.

Noel León held his pace off the back of a smart pit stop strategy, running on fresh soft tires. He crossed the finish line at 05:20 for his first Feature Race victory.

Moments like these remind me why wheel-to-wheel battles in F2 so often beat what we see higher up the grid.

F2 Standing Final Podium and Key Results

When the checkered flag fell, the podium told a clear story. Noel León of Campos Racing took 1st place, marking his first F2 Feature Race win of the year.

It was a moment I still rewatch for the sheer emotion on his face. Kush Maini, the earlier pole-sitter from Invicta Racing, settled for 2nd.

He still walked away with the fastest lap point logged at 06:16. Rafael Câmara brought Trident home in 3rd, and Laurens van Hoepen of ART Grand Prix rounded out 4th.

Every driver’s position on that team sheet mattered for the wider standings fight.

F2 Standing Key Highlights of the Sprint Race

F2’s reverse-grid rule flips the starting grid for the Sprint Race. This time it put Sebastian Montoya on reverse-grid pole position, with Gabriele Minì sharing the front row.

That setup pushed the season’s title rivals into an early scrap. Championship leader Nikola Tsolov had to fight forward from P4.

Fans following the top 10 qualifying drivers know this critical battle rarely stays quiet, and it didn’t. Turn 1 drama brought heavy positioning battles and constant wheel-to-wheel action as cars fought for grip down the main straight.

The Minì vs Tsolov title clashes ran through the whole race, full of position changes and sharp defensive driving. Both championship contenders knew this narrow low-overtaking track punishes mistakes fast.

Further back, mid-pack jostling through the middle sector produced aggressive lunges at Turns 1 and 2. In the bigger race context, this impact ran deep.

The top 8 finishers split 10 points down to 1 point, shaping the grid dynamics and tire strategies teams would carry into the full-distance Feature Race. Watching a driver claw back from P4 to 1st, or hold on for 8th, shows why this Sprint format keeps me hooked every round.

F2 Standing Top F2 Moments 2023 FIA Formula 2 Season

Looking back at the 2023 season still gives me chills. That year’s end-of-season compilation captured the best of the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship.

It was led by Théo Pourchaire’s title run with ART Grand Prix, which ended in the 2023 F2 Drivers’ Championship title at the season finale in Yas Marina. Frederik Vesti of PREMA Racing made it a real fight with a relentless charge.

His run was packed with key victories and pure wheel-to-wheel duels that carried high-stakes drama all the way to the final weekend. Younger names stood out too.

Oliver Bearman delivered a double-win weekend in Baku, and Victor Martins earned the tag of fastest qualifier. Both were part of the season’s breakout rookie performances.

The racing itself brought iconic overtaking maneuvers on high-speed tracks like Spa-Francorchamps, Silverstone, and Monza. It was full of multi-car battles into heavy braking zones.

Add dramatic race restarts, tense Safety Car calls, wet-weather masterclasses, and a few heartbeat-skipping incidents. Bold strategy gambles from the pit wall rounded out a season I still recommend to anyone new to F2.

F2 Standing F2 Sprint Race Highlights 2026 British Grand Prix

The most recent official highlightreel I watched came from Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom. It is easy to see why fans rave about this stop.

The corner sequences through the Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel run test every driver’s nerve. The hard braking into Stowe and Brooklands punishes any late mistake.

Because the Sprint format uses reverse-grid dynamics, the top 10 qualifiers got shuffled. Midfield drivers moved to the front rows, forcing championship contenders to carve a path forward through real wheel-to-wheel strategy.

Long DRS trains formed down the Wellington Straight and Hangar Straight. They were packed with slipstream overtakes and tight defensive positioning that made for high-stakes maneuvering lap after lap.

With Sprint Race points on the line, the fight for top-8 finishing positions felt as tense as any Feature Race. Ten points for the winner down to 1 point for eighth still shapes the 2026 F2 Championship table.

This kind of high-speed action is exactly why I never miss a British Grand Prix weekend.

F2 Standing FIA Formula 2 Championship Standings 2026 Table

This F2 standing table reads like a snapshot of who has been sharpest all year. At the top, Nikola Tsolov from Bulgaria leads for Campos Racing with 167 points.

Just behind him, Gabriele Minì of Italy races for MP Motorsport on 147. Rafael Câmara from Brazil holds third for Invicta Racing with 145.

Alexander Dunne of Ireland sits fourth for Rodin Motorsport on 108. Noel León of Mexico takes fifth for Campos Racing with 94, and Kush Maini holds sixth for ART Grand Prix on 88.

Further down, D. Beganovic of DAMS sits on 79, and Laurens van Hoepen of Trident holds 65. M. Stenshorne and T. Inthraphuvasak are level on 59 apiece.

The midfield keeps tightening. J. Dürksen carries 42, R. Villagómez of Van Amersfoort Racing holds 38, and R. Miyata of Hitech sits on 34.

Toward the lower half, O. Goethe has 29, S. Montoya of PREMA Racing holds 28, and C. Herta carries 26. R. Bilinski sits on 24 and J. Bennett holds 18.

Closing out the order, N. Varrone has 14, M. Boya holds 12, and E. Fittipaldi Jr. of AIX Racing ties with C. Shields on 10 apiece.

Every row in this table, from driver to nationality to team to points, tells its own small story about a season still being decided.

F2 Standing Round 10 Race Weekend Schedule

Looking ahead, Round 10 lands at Monza, Italy, across 04-06 Sep. I always mark this weekend on my calendar early.

Practice opens the schedule on Friday from 13:00-13:45, followed by Qualifying later that same day from 17:55-18:25. The Sprint Race runs on Saturday between 17:15-18:05.

The Feature Race closes the weekend on Sunday from 12:45-13:50. Every time slot listed reflects track time.

Fans checking their own time zone back home should adjust the clock. Anyone wanting the full breakdown can check the full round details page before the lights go out at Monza.

Final Thoughts

From the reversed grids on Saturday to the podium fights on Sunday, every round reshapes the order lower down the sheet. That constant shuffle is exactly why I keep checking f2 standing.
